First of all I must warn you that I'm not an English speaking person. (And if you're here this thing should be clear for you ) So don't be surprised if you're not able to understand anything.

Some years ago there was no suitable visual text file differencing and merging tool for Win32 platforms (like diffutils and xdiff on the UNIX systems). In spite of this fact Windows users also were in need of differencing and merging text files… And at the end of 2000 a noticeable project came to SourceForge.net. It was WinMerge (http://winmerge.org, http://sourceforge.net/projects/winmerge). It was to eliminate a lack of differencing tools for text files on the Windows platform. By now WinMerge has accumulated a lot of useful features that makes it much more powerful than xdiff or any other similar tool.

WinMerge was established as an Open Source Project under GPL so its product is free.

WinMerge is suitable for differencing any kind of the source files. So programmers may find it useful. Particularly it helped me a lot But as I'm a kind of geek some of its features didn't suit me perfectly. So I've made some changes to the WinMerge source code to adjust it for my purposes. As far as WinMerge Project has a long history and should be popular in some degree I thought that my WinMerge mod might be interesting to someone.

WinMerge mod based on WinMerge 2.7.5.1 Experimental.

Major changes:

  1. Differences in the current line are shown a bit more accurately.
  2. tlb plugins now supported (now you are able to use plugins based on .Net Framework).
  3. Prediffer can be applied to more than one file.
  4. Added plugin for 7-zip 4.52. Moreover it finally works!
  5. Updated Russian translation.
  6. Some bugs fixed.

Binaries. You should also download WinMerge 2.7.5.1 Experimental setup bundle and replace its files with these ones. VC8 (VS2005) runtime libraries required.

As WinMerge is a GPL based project I also share its source code. It's a complete WinMerge source code tree based on WinMerge 2.7.5.1 Experimental. If you want to see exactly my changes you may compare these sources with WinMerge 2.7.5.1 original ones. Feel free to use WinMerge for this

Later I'll try to create a patch set for original WinMerge source files.

Any files relating to original WinMerge Project can be downloaded from SourceForge.net.
